Summary

As a Solutions Architect – Data Services, you will define and drive end-to-end data solutions across the Data Services portfolio, translating business objectives into scalable, governed, production-ready architectures.

This is a builder–architect role focused on Azure Databricks, data mesh architectures, domain-oriented data products, and Unity Catalog–based governance.

You will collaborate closely with Product Management, System Architects, Engineering teams, and enterprise stakeholders to ensure solutions are architecturally sound and practically deliverable.

Responsibilities

Solution & Data Architecture

• Define solution-level architectures with a strong focus on:

  • Azure Databricks (workspaces, compute patterns, orchestration)

  • Data mesh architectures and domain-oriented data products

  • Unity Catalog for governance, security, lineage, and multi-workspace

• Contribute to architectural vision and implementation strategy aligned with business goals

• Develop high-level architectures and guide them into implementable designs

• Identify and manage dependencies, integration points, and architectural risks

Data Platform Design & Governance

• Design data ingestion, transformation, and serving in Databricks

• Define data product contracts, ownership, and lifecycle management

• Implement security and access control using Unity Catalog, Entra ID, and cloud-native tools

• Ensure alignment with enterprise governance, compliance, and security standards

• Contribute to reusable data patterns and reference architectures

Hands-on Execution & Proof-of-Concepts

• Design and execute POCs to validate architecture and reduce delivery risk

• Stay hands-on when needed:

  • Python for data engineering, notebooks, and automation

  • C# and Python for APIs and integrations

• Support implementation teams by clarifying designs and resolving complex challenges

Collaboration & Delivery Alignment

• Partner with Product Management and business stakeholders during planning

• Collaborate with System Architects to align solution and system designs

• Guide Agile teams through architecture decisions and delivery

• Participate in architecture reviews and continuous improvement processes

Mentorship & Technical Leadership

• Mentor architects, tech leads, and senior engineers

• Promote best practices in data architecture and engineering

• Lead knowledge sharing through workshops and design reviews

Architectural Design & Documentation

• Create C4 models using Structurizr

• Develop diagrams using PlantUML or Mermaid

• Produce High-Level Designs (HLD) and Low-Level Designs (LLD)

• Define functional and non-functional requirements

• Own architectural enablers from ideation to delivery

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in software and/or data engineering

• 4+ years designing and delivering data platforms on Azure Databricks

• Strong experience with data mesh and domain-oriented data products

• Hands-on expertise in Unity Catalog (governance, security, lineage)

• Solid programming skills in Python and C#

• Experience designing solutions across data platforms, APIs, and cloud systems

• Proven ability to define and deliver solution-level architectures

• Experience with architectural artifacts (C4 models, diagrams, design docs)

• Strong understanding of cloud-native architecture, DevOps, and security

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

• Experience validating designs through POCs

• Previous experience as System Architect or Technical Lead
