Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced QA Lead to oversee and manage the quality assurance process for our software development lifecycle. This role requires a detail-oriented professional who can ensure the highest level of product quality through comprehensive testing, effective defect tracking, and process optimization. The ideal candidate will have a hands-on approach to testing, a deep understanding of QA methodologies, and the ability to lead and mentor other QA resources.
Job Responsibilities
- Thoroughly test the system to identify defects, ensuring they are reported according to established processes.
- Quickly familiarize yourself with the existing QA processes and provide recommendations for improvements to QA workflows and test plans.
- Expand and update existing test plans to accommodate new features and system enhancements.
- Develop a deep understanding of the system, enabling more effective and insightful testing beyond predefined rules and scripts.
- Lead and coordinate QA activities across multiple projects, directing other QA resources as necessary.
- Install and configure software in test environments, including virtual machines.
- Collaborate closely with development teams to perform ad hoc testing on pull requests and new features.
- Conduct thorough regression testing for each release, ensuring minimal defects reach production.
- Maintain and enhance documentation related to the QA process, including release testing procedures, rollback plans, and the regression suite.
- Ensure that the release process is smooth by thoroughly testing each build before deployment and being prepared to assist with rollback procedures if necessary.
Basic Qualifications
- 5-8 years of experience in quality assurance, with at least 2 years in a lead or senior QA role.
- Proven ability to thoroughly test systems and report defects in a structured manner.
- Demonstrated experience in quickly adapting to existing QA processes and identifying areas for improvement.
- Strong capability to expand test plans as new features are added.
- Ability to direct and manage QA resources effectively on various projects.
- Experience in working with Linux operating systems and Mac environments, including managing virtual machines (VMs) using Parallels on MacOS.
- Experience in setting up and maintaining test environments, including software installation on both physical machines and virtual environments.
- Proficiency in using GitHub for development workflow, release management, and bug tracking.
- Experience with regression testing and the ability to execute comprehensive regression test suites.
- Experience in performing installation testing, including Quick Start guide validation and upgrade testing.
- Excellent skills in creating detailed bug reports and screen capture videos for better defect communication.
- Ability to think beyond predefined QA plans and identify potential software issues independently.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to provide actionable recommendations to prevent defects in the final product.
- Effective communication skills for working with development teams and stakeholders.
- Minimal defects allowed into the finished product through rigorous and thorough testing.
- Effective and actionable recommendations to improve the overall quality assurance process.
- Seamless collaboration with the development team for ad hoc testing of pull requests and new features.
- Comprehensive regression testing performed for each release, ensuring stability and reliability of the product.
- Up-to-date and well-maintained QA documentation, including Release Testing & Rollback QA Process, Technical Release Process, and Regression Suite Documentation.
Desirable Skills
- A background in Math, Science, or Engineering, providing a strong analytical foundation.
- Experience with automated testing tools and frameworks.
- Familiarity with continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
- Knowledge of performance testing and tools such as JMeter or LoadRunner.
